St. Peter’s Tide Commemoration Evensong 2025

On 28th June 2025, Bishop Cotton Girls’ School observed the St. Peter’s Tide Commemoration Evensong, a solemn and significant occasion dedicated to honouring the services of the Brotherhood of St. Peter.

This year’s observance held special meaning, as it marked the beginning of the 160th anniversary celebrations of the Bishop Cotton Schools. Under the visionary leadership of our Principal, Dr. Mrs. Lavanya Mithran, the commemorative service at Bishop Cotton Girls’ School was followed by St. Peter’s Day at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School.

The evening service commenced with the opening prayer and call to worship led by the Rev. Dr. Vincent Vinod Kumar, Secretary of the CSI Karnataka Central Diocese, Vice Chairman of the Board of Management, and Presbyter-in-Charge of St. Mark’s Cathedral.

The message was delivered by the Rt. Rev. Dr. K. Reuben Mark, Moderator In-charge, Church of South India – Synod. Drawing from the Gospel reading of St. Matthew 16:13–19, he emphasised how the life of Peter—a simple fisherman transformed into a saint—bears witness to God’s ability to see human strengths rather than weaknesses. This inspiring thought set the spiritual tone for the evening.

The service was honoured by the presence of Bishop Emeritus, the Rt. Rev. Dr.P.K Samuel, alongside members of the clergy of the CSI Karnataka Central Diocese, members of the Board of Management, former Principals of the school, Principals of other Diocesan institutions, Heads of hospitals, boarding homes, and hostels, representatives of the Old Girls’ Association, and the staff and students of both Bishop Cotton Girls’ and Boys’ Schools.

A deeply moving highlight of the service was the school choir’s soulful rendition of Goodness of God and Hallelujah to the Lamb, which filled the sanctuary with reverence and devotion.

The commemoration concluded with the closing prayer led by Bishop Emeritus, the Rt. Rev.Dr. P.K. Samuel, followed by the Benediction pronounced by the Rt. Rev. Dr. K. Reuben Mark, leaving the congregation uplifted and blessed.
