These are Latin words which mean “neither to the right nor to the left.” They probably come from the Latin translation of the Old Testament of the Bible.
The School Song
The Bishop Cotton Girls’ High School anthem ‘On Cottonians, On’, was composed by the Rev. H. Pakenham-Walsh,(Late Bishop Walsh) and set to music by N. M. Saunders, Esq, (Late Assistant Tutor).

We expect our students to maintain and encourage high standards of personal conduct. These standards include personal honesty, discipline, integrity, ethics and values. Students must realize that they are responsible to the school authorities not only for their conduct but also for their general behavior outside.
